Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Tariq Hamid has urged upon project managers to accelerate their efforts for timely completion of water sector projects. He was presiding over a meeting to review the progress of projects of Water Wing here at Wapda House.

Member (Water) Muhammad Mushtaq Chaudhry, Water Wing General Managers, Project Directors and other senior officers attended the meeting. Tariq Hamid said commitment to the cause and exercise of better managerial skills could help achieve targets.

He maintained the country was in dire need of exploiting water resources in view of rapidly increasing population and silting of the existing water reservoirs. That situation called for not only initiating more and more projects but also on-schedule completion of on-going development projects.

He instructed the water sector managers to remove all bottlenecks for timely completion of projects as well as ensuring quality of work in execution of projects so that nation could start reaping benefits as early as possible.

Later, the progress on various projects was reviewed in the meeting. These included raising of Mangla dam, construction of Mirani and Sabakzai dams, Rainee, Kachhi and Greater Thal canals, Neelum - Jhelum, Jinnah, Golen Gol and Mahal hydropower projects.

The meeting was briefed on matters pertaining to restart the construction work on Gomal Zam Dam. Drainage projects and the progress on general investigation schemes were also evaluated.
